Jenny tore through the darkened school. She could hear the steady footsteps behind her as they broke into a run and pounding faster she searched, desperately for an open door, a lock-able room, an escape route. She sprinted the length of the court yard, though her muscles were beginning the scream and she could feel her blood pounding in her ears. She had to get to the door, had to get through it, no matter what... had to survive this. The future was in her hands. She had to... she had...
The footsteps and laughter were getting louder and the door still wouldn't open. Jenny shook the handles wildly and with all her strength, shoved it. She was half way down the next corridor, and thrusting the trolley into her pursuer before she had time to work out where she was. She all but flew up the flight of stairs, searching, manically for a way out.
And then she was ploughing into the dark mass, it's arms tightening around her, crushing her spirit, dulling her screams of escape. She looked deep into Angel's dark eyes and froze as she realised he was considering her like a piece of meat, decided which way to prepare his meal.
His first instinct was to snap her neck with the flick of his wrist. But he smiled as a new idea burrowed it's way... He imagined Giles' bed, slick with her blood, imagined it seeping through the layers of cotton, through the mattress, into a viscous puddle that soaked into the floorboards, infecting the heart of his peaceful room. He thought of the splashes that would stain his furniture, his clothes, that would never scrub out, that would remind Giles of that moment when he least expected it, that would pollute his world like a disease.
Smiling he lowered his head, brushing the skin over her jugular with his tongue. He hissed in her ear, "Just think of the pain your death will bring." And sank his teeth home. Jenny closed her eyes and felt a sharp pain as his jaws locked on her artery. The pair stiffened like lovers, and as he fed Angel let her body loosen in his arms and they sank to the floor.
Her world began to spin from beneath her and the last thing Jenny saw was raven haired girl staring up at a blinding sun, pushing her hair from her eyes, before everything went black.
Angel licked the thick blood from his lips and looked down at his prey. There would be enough left to leave Giles the present he deserved, he thought as he tossed her lifeless body over his shoulder and made off, further into the darkness.
